The programme is tailored to your needs and the participants’ experience and roles. Often the programme is set up in a number of modules, each of which can be half a day or a full day. The following is a common setup:
1. Basic coaching skills
- What is coaching?
- Benefits of coaching
- When should I use coaching and when is it not applicable?
- Practical coaching methods and tools:
- Powerful questions
- Active listening
- The GROW model
- Solution Focus
- Common pitfalls in coaching
2. Thomas Leonard’s 15 Coaching Proficiencies
Thomas Leonard is often referred to as the father of coaching. His 15 coaching proficiencies were considered groundbreaking when he first introduced and taught them 20 years ago. Never before – and never since then – has the craft of coaching been so completely and inspiringly described. New coaches were quickly lifted to unexpected levels of quality, and experienced coaches were positively surprised that there was a higher level of coaching and much more to learn. It was a breath of fresh air – and still is.
I have taught this class four times at CoachVille (a coaching school founded by Thomas Leonard), and several briefer versions of it in Sweden, and even the most experienced participants say that these simple but genius principles have contributed enormously to their development.
These are a few examples of coaching proficiencies:
- Navigates via curiosity
- Enters new territories
- Designs supportive environments
- Engages in provocative conversations.
3. Group coaching
- Similarities and differences between group coaching and individual coaching
- What’s important to consider when coaching a group?
- Different methods for coaching and development in groups:
- Coaching of a group with a common goal
- Individual coaching in a group
- Reflecting teams
- Strengths-based workshop (inspired by Appreciative Inquiry and Solution Focus)
